Imagine a world without jet lag. Traveling would be much less of a hassle, and our sleep-wake schedule would be able to stay consistent after moving across the world. We would be happier, healthier, and maybe even smarter.

Well, what if I told you that there is an app that solves this problem. It's called Timeshifter. The app is meant to reduce jet lag by giving you a schedule for when to wake up, expose yourself to light or darkness, and fall asleep. You start the schedule the day before the flight and end it the day after.

I downloaded the app a day before my trip to Israel this week and entered in my roundtrip ticket and flight number. It found my flight and automatically gave me a full schedule to adjust my circadian rhythm. I was told to wake up at 6am and turn on all of the lights, see the sunrise in the morning, and go to sleep on the plane from 8pm to 1am. At 1am, it told me to wake up and see the sunlight. While I was a little tired, I had been asleep on the plane for a solid 5 hours. It was 8am in Israel and time to start my day. I opened my plane window and exposed myself to the sunlight, which helped my brain adjust to the new time zone faster. After a few hours of watching movies in the sun, I was told to go back to sleep for an hour. I was exhausted and fell asleep easily for an hour. By the time we landed, I was a little sleepy but not wasted. Amazingly, I fell asleep that night in Israel at 10:30 pm, which was 3:30 pm in America! I slept until 9 am and woke up well-rested. I then continued to follow the schedule and exposed myself to sunlight to adjust my circadian rhythm. I had time shifted in no time!

I think that this app is incredibly helpful. It reduced my jet lag and helped me stay fresh. I would definitely recommend this app to anyone traveling to a different time zone, especially if it is a few hours difference. The app is simple to use. All you do is enter in your flight number and when you typically go to sleep and wake up, and then your schedule is automatically calculated. The first roundtrip ticket is free, but after that every trip is $9.99, or you have the option of a yearly subscription for $24. For frequent travelers, I think that this app is a must. I would recommend trying this app on your next long distance flight (since the first trip is free!)

Hi Yair, wow, Timeshifter sounds like an incredible app. I've never heard of it before, but this could be the script of a commercial for it, because you've definitely convinced me to want to try it. I only remember experiencing some jet lag a few years ago when I traveled to Europe, and when I got home from the 8th grade Israel trip. It was annoying not being able to fall asleep easily during the night and then randomly waking up at like 3 am. I didn't have any particular strategies to adjust to normal timing again, I think I just waited the jet lag out. Timeshifter sounds like a game changer, though, and I'll have to try it the next time I travel. Thanks for the review!
