First Haircut in almost 2 Years: Romy Week 2
I got a haircut this week for the first time in almost two years. My hair is extremely thick and has always been pretty hard to manage. I’ve donated my hair twice, and the last time I cut it, it was shoulder-length. I haven’t cut my hair since the end of 2019, so it became way too long and split at the ends. Once I decided that my hair was too long, I couldn’t figure out where to go to cut my hair. The last time I got a haircut, my mom took me to her salon, and it was a disaster. The hairdresser said that my hair was too thick to cut with scissors, so he took a buzzer and just went across the bottom. Thankfully, my aunt called me and suggested a place called “Curlsipration” in East Boca, so I decided I would give it a try.
I started stalking their Instagram only to see a page full of bouncy and defined curls. I knew my hair was wavy, but I doubted going to a salon specializing in curly hair. Once I arrived, the hairdresser sat me down to talk about my hair type and decide on a cut. She was very thorough and told me that my hair is actually very curly, but I’ve never gotten the right cut or used the right products. She started cutting and explained that cutting curly hair is formulated as each curl needs to lay at a specific length to look right when it's coiled up. Fun fact- we were talking and I found out she also cuts Mrs. Finegold’s hair! She spent 30 minutes cutting and 30 minutes scrunching and diffusing my hair to achieve the perfect curls. For those of you who don’t know, there is a chart of hair types, and each one requires different care, products, and styling to maintain its shape. I thought my hair type was 2-a or 2-b, but she told me it is in the 3’s (which is very curly- see the chart below). Once she was finished, I was shocked at the results. I had no idea how much my hair could change based on using the right products along with the right cut to help my hair keep its bounce. You guys all know what my hair usually looks like, so I'll add some pictures of what it looked like after she finished styling it. I don’t usually wear it that curly, but it’s fun to know that I can! Have you ever had a bad haircut? Or have you ever gotten a drastic haircut that made a huge difference?
For some reason my other pictures and link didn't show up, and I don't know how to edit the actual blog, but here is a link to curl types and patterns(including the chart I was referring to). https://curls.biz/hair-type-guide/
ReplyDeleteHi Romy
ReplyDeleteI love watching videos of people's curl transformations and it was really nice to see your curls get so much more defined but in real life. My sister has curly hair and she does so much to it to make it look good, which seems very annoying. Even though its a lot of work it looks like the end result was worth it!
